NLC Hails AbdulRazaq’s 30% Pay Rise, Says Workers’ Welfare Now Better Than Ever in Kwara

The Kwara State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for approving a 30 per cent salary increase for core civil servants in the state, describing the move as a major boost to workers’ welfare and morale.

In a letter dated December 18, 2025, and signed by the NLC Chairman in Kwara State, Comrade Muritala Saheed Olayinka, the labour union expressed deep appreciation to the governor for what it termed a deliberate and people-centred approach to governance, particularly in addressing the welfare needs of workers.

The union noted that the approval of the 30 per cent peculiar allowance reflects the administration’s commitment to cushioning the effects of economic pressures on civil servants and improving their standard of living.

“We wish to express our deep appreciation to His Excellency for his magnanimity in alleviating the plight of workers through various welfare-driven approvals, especially the recent approval of a 30 per cent peculiar allowance for core civil servants in Kwara State,” the letter read in part.

Comrade Olayinka recalled the challenges faced by workers under previous administrations, including delayed and unpaid salaries, poor working conditions, and neglect of labour concerns. He stated that the current administration has clearly distinguished itself by placing workers’ welfare at the centre of governance.

According to the NLC, Governor AbdulRazaq’s performance in the area of workers’ welfare has surpassed that of past governments in the state since the return to democratic rule in 1999, earning him widespread recognition and goodwill among the workforce.

Since assuming office in 2019, the AbdulRazaq administration has implemented several labour-friendly policies, including the prompt payment of salaries, regular promotions, payment of outstanding entitlements, and the implementation of the new national minimum wage.

The NLC further assured the state government of sustained cooperation and industrial harmony, noting that improved welfare packages enhance productivity, boost morale, and translate into better service delivery across the public service.

The congress urged the governor to sustain the tempo, describing his labour-friendly policies as critical to sustainable development, social stability, and economic growth in Kwara State.
