Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Saturday visited Kwara state to commiserate with the government and people over the recent terrorist attack in Woro, Kaiama LGA, which claimed dozens of lives.
Shettima, who addressed stakeholders in Ilorin, described the attack as a violation of the victims’ right to peaceful worship and coexistence, noting that the scale of the killings shocked the nation.
He said he was in the state on the directive of President Bola Tinubu to express solidarity with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the people of Kaiama, and Kwara residents.
“That tragic killing shocked Nigerians because the victims were peaceful members of communities committed to their livelihoods and faith,” he said.

The vice-president disclosed that a battalion of the Nigerian Army has been deployed to the affected area to restore peace and prevent further attacks.
He added that Tinubu had also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to collaborate with state authorities to provide relief materials and humanitarian support to affected families.
Shettima’s delegation included Borno governor Babagana Zulum; senators Ali Ndume, Emmanuel Udende and Ovie Omo-Agege; and NEMA director-general Zubaida Umar.

They were received by AbdulRazaq alongside top government officials, lawmakers, and traditional rulers.
AbdulRazaq thanked the president and vice-president for their swift response, including the deployment of troops and police tactical teams to the affected communities.
“We appreciate the federal government’s support and the visit of the vice-president at this difficult time,” the governor said.

He confirmed that troops under Operation Savannah Shield had begun deployment to forestall further attacks and restore confidence in the area.
The Emir of Kaiama, Muazu Sheu Omar, and local government officials also commended the federal and state governments for their interventions and solidarity with the affected communities.
