Army deploys special forces to Plateau over renewed terrorist attacks

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of a special forces intervention battalion to Plateau State following renewed terrorist attacks in parts of the state.

The Nigerian Army said the troops, already on ground, are expected to carry out aggressive operations aimed at restoring peace and tackling the resurgence of insecurity in affected communities.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Capt. Chinonso Polycarp Oteh.

According to the statement, the deployment of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion is part of efforts to decisively confront security threats and stabilise the situation in the state.

Receiving the troops at the Headquarters of 3 Division Nigerian Army, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Maj.-Gen. Folusho Oyinlola, represented by the Chief of Staff of the operation, Brig.-Gen. Senlong Sule, urged the personnel to remain resolute in their mandate.

He charged the troops to be decisive in their operations against terrorist elements and commended the proactive leadership of the Chief of Army Staff for providing necessary combat support and logistics for the mission.

Oyinlola also appealed to residents of Plateau State not to panic over increased troop movement and deployment of military equipment, assuring that the presence of the soldiers is to enhance security and protect lives and property.

He further urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence that could assist in identifying criminal elements and ensuring lasting peace in the state.
