Leaders from Nigeria’s South-East have sought the support of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, , for the creation of Anim State.
The proposed state is expected to be carved out of and , with Orlu suggested as its capital.
The leaders made the request during a meeting with the deputy speaker, urging the National Assembly to support the bill for the state’s creation.
According to them, the move is necessary to address what they described as the imbalance in the number of states across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
The South-East currently has five states, fewer than the six or seven states in other regions of the country.
