Governor AbdulRazaq Rewards Kwara Debate Team After Historic Presidential Victory in Abeokuta

Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, has congratulated the government and people of Kwara State on the outstanding performance of Team Kwara at the recently concluded Presidential Debate held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Speaking at the Government House in Ilorin while receiving the victorious team, Governor AbdulRazaq commended the students for their brilliance, discipline, and hard work, which earned Kwara State the top spot at the national competition. He described the victory as a reflection of the state’s rising profile in education and youth development.

“I sincerely thank you for making Kwara proud,” the governor said. “You’ve brought joy to our hearts, and I will also make you happy in return.”

As a token of appreciation, Governor AbdulRazaq announced a cash reward of ₦1 million for each debate team member and ₦500,000 for each of their coaching instructors. He also extended his gratitude to the officials of the Ministry of Education, school principals, and teachers across the state who contributed to the team’s success.

“This achievement reflects our strategic investment in education and human capital development. It shows that Kwara is reclaiming its rightful place in national discourse and academic excellence,” the governor added.

Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his purposeful leadership and continued investment in public education. He noted that the administration’s efforts were yielding visible results, as evidenced by the state’s consistent wins in national competitions.

The debate team, which represented various schools across Kwara, include Moshood Kamaldeen, Government Secondary School, Ilorin; AbdulAzeez Aishat, Nawarudeen Grammar School, Offa; AbdulAzeez Mudhasir, Destiny, St. Anthony’s Secondary School, Ilorin; Usman Maryam, Ilorin Grammar School, Ilorin.

Team Kwara emerged national champions, defeating strong contenders from Rivers State (2nd place) and Enugu State (3rd place) in the final rounds of the competition.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Tahueed Abubakar Bello, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake, directors from the ministry, principals, and other education stakeholders.

This latest achievement adds to Kwara’s growing reputation for excellence in academics, leadership, and youth empowerment.
