Maths Scores Soar as NABTEB Releases 2025 NBC/NTC Results

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has announced the release of the 2025 June/July National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) results, with a marked improvement recorded in Mathematics.

Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Board, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, disclosed the results during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

He revealed that a total of 92,875 candidates registered for the examinations across 1,892 centres nationwide, representing a 37.08 per cent increase in enrolment compared to 2024, while the number of centres rose by 10.77 per cent.

Candidates sat for 16 Engineering Trades, seven Construction Trades, nine Miscellaneous Trades, four Business Trades, and 16 General Education Subjects.

Out of 92,875 candidates, 89,621 had their results released. Of these, 61,104 candidates (68.18 per cent) obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, while 74,633 candidates (83.28 per cent) scored five credits and above, with or without English Language and Mathematics.

> “More candidates passed Mathematics while fewer candidates passed English Language this year when compared to last year’s examination results,” Dr. Mohammed stated.

This year, 94.60 per cent of candidates passed Mathematics, while 93.10 per cent recorded pass grades in English Language.

On examination malpractice, the Registrar noted a decline, with 435 candidates involved in 516 cases compared to 349 candidates in 524 cases recorded in 2024.

Dr. Mohammed also announced that registration had commenced for the 2025 November/December NBC/NTC and Advanced National Business Certificate/Advanced National Technical Certificate (ANBC/ANTC) examinations.

“Prospective candidates can access the NABTEB portal or visit any State or Zonal Office to obtain guidelines for registration,” he said, while underscoring the importance of vocational and technical education.

> “In today’s 21st-century world, the need for comprehensive Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is highly crucial to national development,” he added.

Established in 1992 by Decree No. 70 (now Act 70 of 1993), NABTEB was created to domesticate the conduct of business and technical examinations previously administered by foreign bodies like the RSA and City & Guilds of London, ensuring nationally relevant certification.

The NBC/NTC examinations are integral to Nigeria’s TVET framework, aimed at equipping learners with practical, employable skills in vocational and technical fields.

Last year, 67,751 candidates sat for the NBC/NTC examinations; 44,000 (65.34 per cent) obtained five credits including English Language and Mathematics, while 62,235 (92.42 per cent) secured five credits and above with or without the two core subjects.
