Council says due process was followed; traditional leaders, state officials endorsed project
The authorities of Offa Local Government Area have defended the recently commissioned 1.1km asphaltic road project, insisting that due process was strictly followed in the award and execution of the contract.
This clarification comes amid claims by some critics questioning the ownership and supervision of the project.
According to documents made available to journalists, the contract was publicly advertised and three companies—Skylat-One Nigeria Ltd, Mateeni Nig. Ltd, and Peace One Ltd—submitted bids. Following evaluation, the project was awarded to Peace One Ltd as the most qualified contractor.
All tender documents, receipts, and procurement records are available for scrutiny at the local government secretariat, officials said.
Council Chairman, Hon. Suleiman Olatunji Omituntun, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to accountability.
“Every kobo that comes to Offa Local Government will be accounted for and channelled into projects that directly impact the lives of our people,” he said.
The Kwara State Commissioner for Local Government was reported to have inspected the site on three occasions, certifying the quality of the work.
Community leaders including the Olofa of Offa and the Chief Imam of Offa were also said to have been involved from inception and were present at both the flag-off and commissioning of the road.
This project represents our vision of Offa Tuntun—a modern, progressive Offa built on transparency and service delivery. No amount of blackmail will derail our resolve to deliver for our people,” the Chairman added.
Council officials further clarified that Offa Local Government, not the Federal Government, is the official client as clearly stated in contractual documents.
They stressed that the road, now in use, reflects the administration’s broader agenda to improve infrastructure and enhance the well-being of residents.
