The Kwara State Government has unveiled a series of new projects and policy reforms aimed at strengthening sustainability and moral development in the education sector, including the introduction of daily peptalks across all schools to promote discipline, integrity, and sound character among students.

Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, disclosed this on Tuesday at the 3rd Quarter 2025 Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing organised by the Ministry of Communications in Ilorin.

Dr. Olohungbebe announced the completion and handover of several school projects across the three senatorial districts, including the Prototype School at Adewole, Ilorin; Olokuta Senior Secondary School, Anfeyinoja; and a newly constructed block of three classrooms with offices, furniture, toilets, and a motorised borehole.

He added that Mount Carmel Junior Secondary School, Ilorin, now has three new classrooms, an office, toilets, and a motorised borehole, while Ansarul-Islam Secondary School, Osi, received an examination hall and other facilities. Senior Secondary School, Gbagba, also benefited from the completion of a new examination hall to support large-scale assessments.

On policy initiatives, the Commissioner said the Ministry has implemented reforms aligned with global standards, engaged stakeholders through the Education Management Information System (EMIS) on the Annual School Census, and partnered with various NGOs for digital training of teachers and staff.

He noted that a new Tripartite Committee, comprising the Ministry, the Teaching Service Commission, and the State Universal Basic Education Board, has been established to monitor school operations and ensure accountability.

Highlighting academic achievements, Dr. Olohungbebe said Kwara students excelled at the Genius Illumina Project Exhibition in Lagos and will represent Nigeria in the United States. He added that Kwara students emerged champions at the 2025 President’s Debate in Abeokuta, with the winners and their teachers receiving ₦7 million in rewards.

The Commissioner explained that the newly introduced online registration for the Common Entrance Examination improved placement outcomes, while students also recorded better results in the 2025 BECE.

On adult and non-formal education, he said the Agency for Mass Education trained 25 facilitators on modern pedagogy for out-of-school children, in partnership with the National Commission for Mass Literacy, while three young women received vocational training and support through LOIB Empowerment Initiative.

Speaking on the AGILE Project, Dr. Olohungbebe said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq facilitated the initiative to expand education opportunities for adolescent girls. Under the programme, 193 health workers, 32 security representatives, and 29 service providers underwent training on School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV).

Over 5,000 School-Based Management Committee members have also been trained on School Improvement Plans, while digital literacy manuals were produced— including Braille versions for visually impaired students. Sensitisation on girls’ scholarship opportunities is ongoing across the three senatorial districts.
