The Executive Secretary of Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, has unveiled the official jersey for the 5th edition of Play With Kwara Youth sports fiesta scheduled for December 28.
Prof. Elelu also agreed to serve as Head Coach during the sporting activities, which aim to unite Kwara youths across political, religious, and tribal divides.
The PWKY organizing team, led by Technical Assistant Shafihi Abdulrasheed O. Alage, visited Prof. Elelu at the agency’s headquarters to brief her on the initiative’s vision and seek her support.
Abdulrasheed explained that PWKY was established to bring Kwara youths together regardless of their political parties, religions, or tribes, using sports as a unifying tool.
He noted that the team considered Prof. Elelu worthy of the Head Coach role due to her track record of promoting unity and quality healthcare across Kwara communities.
“Prof. Elelu’s work at the Primary Healthcare Agency mirrors what we’re doing at PWKY. Just as quality healthcare brings communities together and builds trust across divides, our sports initiative creates platforms where young people bond beyond politics and religion,” Abdulrasheed stated.
He added that both initiatives share a common goal of building a healthier, more united Kwara—one through physical wellness, the other through social cohesion.
Responding, Prof. Elelu, who is the University of Ilorin’s first female Professor of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, embraced the PWKY initiative, describing it as a strategic tool to keep Kwara youths united.
She particularly commended the team’s participation in the novelty football match organized by the agency to mark the launch of the Measles Rubella Vaccine.
“What you’re doing is exactly what Kwara needs. Unity among our youths is as important as good healthcare. When young people come together in sports, they build friendships that transcend politics and tribe,” Prof. Elelu said.
She assured PWKY of her readiness to support the initiative and continue working toward the unity of Kwarans.
The 5th edition of the Play With Kwara Youths sports fiesta will feature football, table tennis, scrabble, and ludo competitions.
