Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has condemned Tuesday’s attack on Eruku in the Ekiti Local Government Area of the state, calling for immediate and enhanced security deployment to curb the renewed wave of criminal incursions in the axis.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the Governor described the incident as “unconscionable” and said he had already requested urgent deployment of more security operatives to reinforce the existing security architecture in the area.
“The Governor has sought immediate deployment of more security operatives to support the existing security architecture in the area,” the statement read. “He requested that this new measure be activated immediately.”
AbdulRazaq expressed deep sympathy with the people of Eruku and neighbouring communities, especially the families affected and the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) congregation attacked on Tuesday.
“The Governor wholly condemns the attack, sympathises and identifies with the people of Eruku and environs, especially families and the CAC directly impacted by the condemnable incident,” the statement added. “The state government will continue to support security agencies to tackle these challenges and ensure the safety of lives and properties across the state.”
The Governor also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the recent deployment of 900 additional troops to Kwara State, noting that the intervention has already improved security in several previously troubled areas.
“We have indeed seen appreciable calm in many areas previously affected. We sincerely thank the President for this,” the Governor said. “We are confident that the additional troops will provide further deterrence, overall safety for our people, and permanent calm.”
Security agencies have launched ongoing operations in the Eruku axis to track down the attackers while restoring confidence among residents.
