Govt Commends Residents Participation on CBES

The Kwara State Government has commended residents full participations in today’s Community Based Environmental Sanitation (CBES) exercise, held within and outside Ilorin, the state capital.

The Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, stated this in Ilorin today, while monitoring the community based monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

Hajia Buge who was represented by the Director Environment, Mrs Mary Mustapha said that this month’s exercise is first of its kind, involving rural communities in the clearing and cleaning of gutters and waterways, adding that, there was vehicular movement due to students writing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, organized by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Buge, thereafter appealed to residents to join hands with the Kwara State Government, to sustain a cleaner Kwara.

During the community inspection, the Environmental Health Officers (Wolewole) and Environmental Taskforce led by Mrs Mary Mustapha combed through Adabata, Mandate Market, Oja-Oba, Ojagboro, Ojukoto, Niger Road and Ode Alfa Nda to inspect the level of communities compliances, which was described as being impressive.

Waste recovered from drainages and other parts of the communities were later conveyed to the Government approved dump site, by trucks provided by the state Ministry of Environment.

A residential building was sealed off during the exercise, at Ode Alfa-Nda area, while other apprehended offenders were handed over to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps’ (NSCDC), awaiting prosecution from the competent law court.

On the Commissioner’s entourage were the Director Personnel, Finance and Supply (DPFS), Mr Taiwo Okanlawon, Director Forestry, Babatunde Mahmood and Head Of Department, Climate Change, Mr Illias Abdulganiyy.

Others are; the Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Mrs. Folorunsho AbdulRazaq, Environmental Health officers of the State Ministry of Environment and members of the Environmental Health Taskforce in the state.
