Childhood Heartbreak Sparked My Toxic Traits – Ruger Opens Up

Afrobeats star Ruger has opened up about a childhood heartbreak that he says triggered his “villain traits” and shaped his behavior growing up.

Speaking on the Bro Bants show, Ruger recalled falling for an older woman at just six years old. She affectionately called him her “boyfriend,” which led him to believe they shared a special bond.

However, his illusion shattered when he caught her in an intimate moment with another man. “I saw a guy smashing her through the window. I cried. I was traumatised,” he said.

Ruger added that the emotional pain led him to sing Styl-Plus’s Imagine That—a song that perfectly captured his heartbreak. He admitted the experience left a lasting mark, saying, “That was what started my toxicity.”
