President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to national security, declaring that Nigeria will not yield to threats of terror or internal sabotage.
Speaking during a visit to Nigerian Armed Forces troops in Katsina State on Friday, the President sent a strong message to what he described as “domestic collaborators and foreign agents” working to destabilise the country.
> “To those who seek to destabilise our nation—be they domestic collaborators or foreign agents—hear this: Nigeria will not bow. Not to fear. Not to terror. Not to treachery,” Tinubu stated.
Praising the troops’ dedication and resilience, Tinubu referred to them as “the shield of Nigeria” and the “silent guardians of our democracy.”
> “You are the brave sons and daughters who stand between our people and the forces of terror. Every terrorist you neutralise and every community you secure is a victory for justice, freedom, and the future of our children,” he said.
Tinubu acknowledged the persistent threats of terrorism, insurgency, and banditry, calling this period a defining moment in Nigeria’s history.
> “Nigerians are counting on you to end this menace and reclaim every inch of our territory,” he emphasized.
The President also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the military, including enhanced equipment, intelligence capabilities, and logistical support. He assured troops that their welfare remains a top priority.
> “We are committed to ensuring your families are protected, your allowances are paid on time, your healthcare is guaranteed, and your dignity preserved,” he added.
Key welfare initiatives include improved housing, insurance coverage, family support programs, and better remuneration.
His speech comes amid rising insecurity across northern Nigeria. In April, more than 150 people were killed in coordinated attacks in Benue and Plateau States, including over 100 in Bokkos and Bassa LGAs. The violence mirrored the devastating 2023 Christmas Eve massacre in Plateau, which claimed around 150 lives.
In the North-East, fears of a Boko Haram resurgence intensified following ISWAP-led bombings in Borno State that killed at least 26 people. In response, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar was appointed to lead renewed counter-insurgency efforts.
Despite growing public pressure over the security situation, Tinubu remained resolute, urging the military to hold the line.
> “Let your resolve echo through every valley and forest. Let the enemies of Nigeria know—their time is up,” he charged. “With your valour and discipline, peace shall prevail. Nigeria depends on you, and I stand with you—today, tomorrow, and always.”
