…Opens Bids for 2024 UBEC/SUBEB Intervention Projects
In a landmark move to ease the financial burden on parents and strengthen the state’s basic education system, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has scrapped the collection of Parents Teachers Association (PTA) levies in all public primary schools across the state.
The Governor has also approved annual school grants to replace the PTA levies, providing direct operational funding to at least 1,717 public primary schools.
Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, disclosed this on Thursday in Ilorin during the bid opening ceremony for the 2024 third and fourth quarters of the UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects.
“The Governor has approved the stoppage of PTA payments in all public primary schools in Kwara State. From Primary 1 to 6, no more PTA levy,” Prof. Adaramaja announced.
He added that the state government has approved the procurement of English and Mathematics textbooks for free distribution to all pupils in public primary schools.
The SUBEB boss explained that the ongoing intervention projects would include construction and renovation of classrooms, VIP toilets, solar-powered boreholes, digital literacy rehabilitation, safe school initiatives, and the fabrication of pupils’ furniture, among others.
Adaramaja commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his consistent investment in school infrastructure, teachers’ welfare, and human capital development. He also revealed that the Governor has approved payment of the 2025 counterpart funds to sustain the UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects.
He warned contractors to adhere strictly to project specifications, cautioning that shoddy execution would not be tolerated.
Responding on behalf of the contractors, Alhaji Maroof Ahmed, Secretary of the Indigenous Contractors Association, expressed gratitude to the state government for providing opportunities for local contractors, pledging that they would deliver quality work.
