The Kwara State Government has announced a temporary shutdown of the Kwara Garment Factory to enable a smooth handover to a new management team following the completion of the outsourcing process.
This development comes after the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Technology (BIT) concluded the selection process for a new private manager, in line with public procurement regulations and the earlier call for Expressions of Interest published in national newspapers.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Hon. Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, the temporary closure will allow for pre-handover maintenance and an extensive inventory check of the factory’s assets.
Adelodun directed all civil servants seconded to the garment factory to return to their respective ministries pending further instructions. He also advised trainees at the factory to apply directly to the new management for possible engagement under the fresh operational structure.
“All trainees shall be given a one-month training allowance,” the Commissioner added, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring a seamless transition and protecting the welfare of affected workers and trainees.
The Kwara Garment Factory, one of the state’s flagship industrial projects, was established to create jobs, enhance local textile production, and boost the state’s manufacturing capacity. The government expressed optimism that the new management will further reposition the factory for greater productivity and sustainability.
