The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kwara State Wing, has distanced itself from any planned or ongoing protest allegedly being organised in the name of public school teachers in the state, describing such actions as unauthorised and illegal.
In a public announcement issued on Tuesday and jointly signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Yusuf Wahab Agboola, and the Deputy Secretary-General, Moni Mike Modesty Itua, the union stated that neither the NUT nor its leadership has ordered, authorised, or directed teachers or any group to embark on protests against any institution, individual, or the Kwara State Government.
The union warned that any person or group staging a protest while claiming to represent public school teachers in Kwara State would be doing so at their own risk, stressing that such actions do not have the backing of the union.
Arising from this development, the NUT directed all teachers across the state to disregard any calls for protest, urging them to remain law-abiding and focused on their professional responsibilities.
Meanwhile, the union expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Government under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for approving Teachers Specific Allowances (TSA) of 27.5 per cent and 21 per cent, respectively, in line with the union’s long-standing demands.
The NUT described the approval of the TSA as a thoughtful and positive step that demonstrates the state government’s commitment to the welfare of teachers and the development of the education sector in Kwara State.
The union reaffirmed its readiness to continue constructive engagement and dialogue with the state government to sustain industrial harmony and promote quality education across the state.
