Firefighters Contain Fire Outbreak at Irepodun Legislative Chamber in Omu-Aran

Firefighters from the Kwara State Fire Service on Friday night successfully contained a fire outbreak at the Legislative Chamber of Irepodun Local Government Area, Omu-Aran, preventing further damage to the complex and surrounding structures.

The incident occurred at about 10:01 p.m. on December 9, 2025, at the legislative complex located along Olomu Road, Omu-Aran. According to the Kwara State Fire Service, the fire affected the main Legislative Chamber and four offices within the facility.

Fire service officials said operatives were promptly deployed to the scene and were able to bring the situation under control before the blaze could spread to other parts of the complex or nearby buildings.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge, which ignited electrical components and other combustible materials in the affected offices.

Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, CFS Alabi Muhammed, urged government offices and public institutions to take electrical safety seriously. He advised the installation of surge protectors, the use of standard electrical fittings, and regular inspection and maintenance of wiring systems to prevent similar incidents.

He stressed that strict adherence to safety standards in public buildings is crucial to safeguarding governance infrastructure and preventing the loss of valuable public assets.

The Kwara State Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, property, and public infrastructure across the state, assuring residents of its readiness to respond swiftly to emergencies.
