Ifelodun APC Group Warns Against Divisive Endorsements Ahead of 2027

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have cautioned politicians and political actors in the area against actions capable of misleading party members or causing division ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The warning came from the Ifelodun Progressives Network (IPN), an amalgam of concerned APC stakeholders and progressives in the local government, who accused some party members of turning political endorsements into what they described as a “business transaction.”

In a statement issued by the Acting Public Relations Officer of the group, Engineer Olaniyi Alabi, the IPN declared that Ifelodun Local Government Area “is not for sale to any political aspirant,” stressing that political support should not be manufactured through staged endorsements.

The group was reacting to a communiqué issued after a recent consultative engagement allegedly organised by associates and political aides of Senator Lola Ashiru. While acknowledging the right of party members to hold meetings and express opinions, the IPN warned against presenting such gatherings as a reflection of broad stakeholder consensus.

“While every party member reserves the right to convene meetings and express opinions, it is important to separate genuine stakeholder consensus from a spectacle designed to manufacture legitimacy where none exists,” the statement said.

The group described the outcome of the meeting as “misleading, disingenuous and unacceptable,” questioning how discussions reportedly centred on development, insecurity, displacement, political responsiveness and communal trauma could suddenly result in what it termed a “political coronation.”

“How does a sincere dialogue on development, House of Assembly declaration for 2027, banditry, displacement, political responsiveness and communal trauma suddenly culminate in a political coronation?” the group queried.

Reiterating its position on equity and fairness, the IPN said its members remain firmly committed to justice in political arrangements, insisting that 2027 would not be an exception.

“For us in Ifelodun Local Government, we are unequivocal about our quest for fairness, justice and equity at all fronts, and 2027 will not be an exception,” the statement added.

The group also restated its support for zoning arrangements it believes would promote balance and inclusion, calling for the Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency to be zoned to Ifelodun Local Government Area, and for the senatorial seat to be zoned to the Igbomina bloc.

IPN further urged APC leaders at both state and national levels to disregard what it described as self-serving endorsements, and instead focus on genuine grassroots engagement, internal democracy and fairness within the party.

“The future of Kwara State, Kwara South and Ifelodun in particular cannot be built on political theatrics and emotional blackmail, but on fairness, justice and equity,” the statement concluded.
