Tinubu Arrives Abu Dhabi for 2026 Sustainability Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to participate in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), a major global forum dedicated to advancing sustainable development, climate action and renewable energy solutions.

The President’s aircraft touched down at the Zayed International Airport at about 11:30 p.m. local time, where he was received by the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan; the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi; Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; and members of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi.

Other senior Nigerian officials who later welcomed President Tinubu at his hotel included the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu arrived in the UAE from Europe, where he spent part of the end-of-year break and held high-level engagements with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron on issues of mutual interest, including regional stability, economic cooperation and development partnerships.

The visit to Abu Dhabi is at the invitation of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, underscoring the growing diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the UAE.

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is an annual international summit that convenes global leaders, policymakers, investors, industry experts and civil society organisations to deliberate on energy innovation, climate resilience and the financing needed to drive the global transition to clean and renewable energy.

The 2026 edition of the summit, themed “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go,” focuses on translating climate commitments into concrete action through three key pillars—innovation, finance and people.

President Tinubu is expected to use the platform to showcase Nigeria’s sustainable development priorities, promote investment opportunities in renewable energy and green infrastructure, and strengthen international partnerships that support economic diversification and climate resilience. The engagement aligns with his administration’s agenda to attract foreign direct investment, deepen economic cooperation and position Nigeria as a key player in Africa’s energy transition.
