Kwara reopens schools as security forces sustain anti-bandit operations

Schools across Kwara State will reopen on Monday, February 2, 2026, following what the state government described as improved security conditions driven by sustained operations against criminal elements.

The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, , disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, confirming that school authorities across the state have been formally notified of the directive.

According to the commissioner, the decision was taken after a review of the security situation, which showed significant improvement compared to previous weeks when bandit activities forced heightened vigilance around public facilities, including schools.

“The government deems the situation now to be a lot better than it was before. Even so, we continue to maintain vigilance,” the statement read.

The ministry noted that security agencies are maintaining steady operations to consolidate recent gains, while the state government is also strengthening community-based safety structures to complement kinetic interventions.

It assured parents, teachers and students that safety remains a top priority, adding that collaboration between security forces, school administrators and local communities will be sustained to prevent any resurgence of threats.

The reopening is expected to allow academic activities to resume fully after weeks of disruption linked to heightened security concerns in parts of the state.
