No fewer than 165 elderly women in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State have paid tribute to the late Olusola Saraki, reaffirming their loyalty to his political legacy and backing the ambition of Omar Bolaji Gambari ahead of the 2027 elections.
The women, drawn from the 11 wards in the council area, converged on Monday at a meeting hosted by a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Alhaji Abdulateef Olajide Olanrewaju Yusuf, popularly known as Sheu Agba 001.
At the gathering held in Agah, the participants recalled the late Saraki’s support for elderly citizens, describing him as a compassionate leader who prioritised their welfare.
They said although age has limited their visits to the residence of Bukola Saraki, they remain loyal to the Saraki political structure and offered prayers for its continued success.
The group also appealed for the governorship ticket of the PDP to be zoned to Ilorin South, noting that the area is yet to produce a governor in the state.
They pledged support for the PDP and Sheu Agba 001, promising to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of future elections.
The women commended Gambari for his support through food items and financial assistance, describing the gesture as a reflection of the Saraki legacy.
Speaking, the host urged the women to sustain mobilisation efforts and support aspirants from Ilorin South, including Gambari and Prof. Ali Ahmad.
He said the initiative was inspired by the legacy of Olusola Saraki, particularly his recognition of the role of elderly women in political mobilisation.
The meeting also featured discussions on voter education and grassroots engagement, with participants pledging continued support for the party.
The host assured that the engagement would be sustained through regular meetings to strengthen party unity ahead of the 2027 polls.
