The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from recent comments attributed to Lanre Issa-Onilu, describing them as personal opinions that do not reflect the position of the party.
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Abdulwaheed Olawale Babatunde, the party said its leadership remains committed to due process in determining candidates for forthcoming elections.
The party noted that while members are entitled to express their views, such opinions should not be misconstrued as the official stance of the APC.
It warned that the remarks credited to Issa-Onilu appeared self-serving and urged members to exercise caution in interpreting them.
“The process for selecting candidates remains open and will be determined through established party guidelines, including consensus or primaries, as agreed by stakeholders,” the statement said.
The APC further advised members to avoid actions capable of undermining party structures or creating divisions within its ranks.
It emphasised the need for unity, discipline, and adherence to democratic principles, especially as the party prepares for future political engagements.
