ODU Must Rise Above Politics and Demand Justice for Our Abducted Kin – By Tajudeen Hammed Anderson

To remain silent now is to be complicit.

It has been twenty-three agonizing days since our beloved sons and daughters—innocent Offa-bound passengers—were kidnapped in Ekiti Local Government on their way home.

The silence from those who should lead the outcry is deafening, disturbing, and utterly unacceptable.

The Offa Descendants’ Union (ODU), a once-revered voice of our people, has remained conspicuously quiet in the face of this tragedy.

This is not just an attack on a handful of travelers. It is an affront to the entire Offa community, a painful wound on the soul of our town. And yet, ODU appears preoccupied with political alignment rather than its sacred duty of communal representation.

We, the people, are watching. And we are disappointed.

The Union’s mandate is clear: to stand for every Offa indigene, regardless of political affiliation, social class, or religious creed.

But in this case, ODU has failed. At a time when its voice is most needed to rally national and state attention, it has chosen silence—perhaps for fear of ruffling feathers in certain political quarters.

That is a betrayal of its founding principles as Omo Olalomi.

Leadership, especially at times like this, demands courage, neutrality, and conviction. The politics of silence and alignment cannot and must not overshadow the cries of suffering families, the anguish of children awaiting the return of their parents, or the trauma of survivors who escaped the horrors of the forest.

This is a direct call to the National President of ODU and all its executives: your duty is not to any political party or elected official, but to Offa and its people. Demand the immediate intervention of security agencies. Call for an open investigation.

Amplify the cries of the bereaved. Do not allow the Union to be reduced to a tool of political convenience.

This is not about party lines. It is about our collective humanity and heritage. Offa is bleeding, and we must all act.

Let ODU rise to its name again—not as a partisan organ, but as the fierce, united voice of Offa people everywhere. Until our abducted brothers and sisters are safely returned, the Union must not rest, must not retreat, and must not relent.
