ASKOMP holds media roundtable on Kwara 2027 elections

The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) has announced plans to host a media roundtable on Friday, January 30, 2026, as part of efforts to deepen public discourse and strengthen preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Chairman of the association, Salihu Shola Taofeek, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, noting that the roundtable is aimed at providing a platform for critical stakeholders to deliberate on the transition process in Kwara State and the role of the media in shaping credible leadership.

The event, themed “Kwara 2027: Media, Politics and the Search for Credible Leadership,” will feature Dr. Ibrahim Salawu, Acting Director of the Kwara State University Centre for Politics and Corporate Governance, and Dr. Rafiu Bakare, Deputy Director of the Institute of Legislative Studies, University of Ilorin, as guest speakers.

According to Taofeek, stakeholders expected at the roundtable include representatives of political parties, members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), socio-political organisations from the three senatorial districts of the state, and other relevant interest groups.

He added that the programme, scheduled to hold at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Ilorin, is designed to encourage constructive engagement among political actors, the media and the public, while promoting transparency and accountability in the democratic process.

Taofeek reaffirmed ASKOMP’s commitment to using the media as a tool for civic education and democratic development, stressing that the association will continue to champion initiatives that contribute to credible elections and good governance in Kwara State and beyond.
