Omo Ibile Igbomina, a socio-cultural organisation, has condemned the abduction of five persons, including the Chief Imam of Babanla, by suspected gunmen in Kwara State.
The National President of the group, Sir Bisi Fakayode, described the incident as disturbing and unacceptable, saying it has created fear and tension within Babanla community and neighbouring areas.
Fakayode, in a statement issued on Sunday by his Press Secretary, Adewumi Adekunle James, expressed sympathy with the families of the victims and the entire community over the incident.
He also prayed for the safe and immediate release of the abducted persons, expressing hope that they would soon reunite with their loved ones unharmed.
“The abduction of innocent citizens, particularly a respected religious leader, has created anxiety within the community and beyond. We stand in solidarity with the families of the victims and the entire Babanla community,” the statement said.
The group called on government at all levels and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
Fakayode urged authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering and security operations in vulnerable communities, especially in rural areas, to curb the rising cases of kidnapping.
He also appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to help restore peace and security in the area.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to advocating the protection of lives and property of people in Igbomina land while supporting lawful efforts aimed at improving security in the region.
