FIFA has sanctioned Nigeria national football team and DR Congo national football team over supporters’ misconduct during their 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff match in November.
In its latest disciplinary overview, FIFA said both national football associations breached provisions of its disciplinary code following incidents involving fans during the African World Cup playoff final.
The match, which determined qualification in the playoff round, ended with DR Congo defeating Nigeria on penalties.
FIFA said the sanctions were imposed after reviewing reports of fan behaviour during the encounter, reiterating its stance on maintaining discipline and safety during international matches.
