Kwara State Government has intensified its infrastructural renewal drive, with the State Executive Council on Thursday approving major construction projects across education, road, and sports sectors.
The approvals, announced after the council meeting presided over by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, include new roads in the southern region of the state, a Senate building for the Kwara State University of Education (KWSUED), and the rehabilitation of Offa and Lafiagi stadia.
KWSUED Senate Building
In a move seen as the takeoff of the Kwara Smart City project, the council approved the construction of a four-storey administrative/Senate building for KWSUED.
According to the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, the building—awarded to M C & T Limited at a cost of N11.9bn for 15 months—will house the Senate and Council Chambers, Conference Rooms, and key offices for the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, Registrar, and Bursar. It will also accommodate offices for Finance, Registry, Student Affairs, Examination, and Records, among others.
Road Projects in Oyun and Ifelodun
The council also approved new road projects in the southern axis. These include the Ojoku-Ilemona Bye-Pass Road in Oyun Local Government Area, a 15km stretch that will ease traffic into the 49km Afon-Ojoku-Offa-Odo Otin road. The contract was awarded to Construction Products Nig. Ltd. at N6.4bn with a completion timeline of 19 months.
Additionally, the Alabe-Oreke Road in Ifelodun was awarded at N2bn to Wallyson Ventures. The road, due for completion in 12 months, links Ifelodun with agrarian and rocky terrain communities and extends the Owode-Ofaro stretch to Isin Local Government Area.
Sports Infrastructure
The council further disclosed that contractors have been mobilised to commence rehabilitation of Offa and Lafiagi Stadia, which have been neglected for years. The projects are expected to enhance access to modern sporting facilities and foster grassroots sports development.
Governor AbdulRazaq reiterated his administration’s commitment to building infrastructure that strengthens human capital development and inclusive growth, stressing that the new projects are geared toward sustainable development across Kwara State.
