Troops Rescue Kidnapped Mother, Child, Others as Army Intensifies Onslaught in Kwara

Troops of 2 Division/Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have sustained aggressive operations against bandits in Kwara State, leading to the rescue of three kidnapped victims from different locations within the Babanla Forest on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

According to a statement from the Nigerian Army, the rescue followed credible intelligence received by troops deployed at the Patrol Base in Babanla, who swiftly mobilised to a suspected bandit hideout. During the operation, the troops successfully rescued Mrs. Oluwabusayo Taiwo, aged 25, and her three-year-old son, Taiwo Irayomide, who were abducted at Oke-Ode on September 28, 2025.

The Army noted that the rescued victims were immediately given first aid treatment at the Patrol Base sick bay and would be reunited with their families after medical clearance.

In a similar operation, troops on routine patrol along a known bandit route rescued Mr. Mohammadu Sani (popularly known as Mai Shayi), a 40-year-old local tea seller from Garkarima, who had been kidnapped by armed men. The troops reportedly engaged the fleeing bandits, who abandoned the victim and escaped into the forest. One dane gun and a cutlass were recovered from the scene.

The victim, who sustained injuries, is currently receiving medical attention at the Patrol Base.

Commending the soldiers for their gallantry and professionalism, the Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to the safety and security of residents across Kwara State.

He assured that the Nigerian Army would continue to intensify its operations to dismantle criminal hideouts and restore lasting peace and stability to the state and its environs.
