No fewer than 10,000 registered voters from Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State have relocated their voting units to Okene Local Government Area, declaring the move as a show of solidarity with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Governor Yahaya Bello ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was announced by the group’s spokesperson, who said the decision was taken collectively by the voters to honour and appreciate Yahaya Bello, an indigene of Okene in Kogi Central Senatorial District, for what they described as his transformative leadership and role in installing the current governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo.
According to the spokesperson, the relocation of voting units symbolises gratitude to the former governor for “liberating them from political bondage” and ushering in an era of democratic awareness and development in their communities.
“Until former Governor Yahaya Bello assumed office, we never truly understood the meaning of democracy,” the spokesperson said. “Today, we are not only free, but we also marvel at the level of development we now enjoy under the same democratic system that existed before.”
Mallam Musa Ishaq, leader of the APC Concerned Group coordinating the voter relocation exercise, described the move as a voluntary act of solidarity with what he termed “the living hero of Kogi State’s democratic experiment.”
“This singular gesture is to appreciate the former governor for giving Kogites Governor Usman Ododo,” Ishaq said. “Moving our votes to Kogi Central is our way of standing in solidarity with Yahaya Bello. Even though he does not need our votes to win convincingly in 2027, we want to be actively involved in his future political success and show that we are determined and committed citizens.”
The group further applauded Yahaya Bello for what they described as “the best New Year gift” in the emergence of Governor Ododo, whom they credited with sustaining the former governor’s development agenda.
They also congratulated Governor Ododo on his birthday, pledging their continued support for his administration and reaffirming their loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both state and national levels.
The voters reiterated their commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, describing their action as part of a broader mobilisation effort to strengthen the party’s base in Kogi State and beyond.
