No justification for delay in enforcing Ganmo stool judgment — Igbomina group

The apex socio-cultural body of the Igbomina people, Omo Ibile Igbomina, has urged the Kwara State Government to immediately enforce the Supreme Court judgment affirming the Oluganna lineage as the rightful owner of the Ganmo stool in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The group made the call on Tuesday at a press briefing in Ganmo, insisting that there is no legal or administrative justification for the delay in implementing the March 2019 judgment.

It specifically demanded the installation of Alhaji Abdulyeqeen Oluwakayode Kolawole as Oluganna, in line with the court’s ruling.

Speaking on behalf of the group, its National President, Sir Bisi Fakayode, described the continued delay in issuing the Letter of Appointment and Staff of Office as a disregard for judicial authority.

“The judgments of the Court of Appeal, Ilorin, and the Supreme Court are clear and binding. The Oluganna lineage remains the sole legitimate custodian of the Ganmo stool,” he said.

Fakayode noted that the rulings align with the 1978 Arbitration Report, which affirmed the exclusive right of the lineage to the throne.

“There is no justification for delay. Government must rise above undue influence and ensure justice is not denied,” he added.

The group also dismissed allegations linking former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami (rtd), to the delay, describing the claims as unfounded.

It, however, urged the retired jurist to publicly clarify his position to avoid misinterpretation.

Omo Ibile Igbomina further cautioned the Sunmonu Okunoye family of Idiape, Ilorin, against dragging Salami into the dispute.

The body warned that failure to enforce the judgment could erode public confidence and set a dangerous precedent.

It called on the state government to immediately release the Oluganna’s Letter of Appointment, present the 3rd Class Staff of Office, and fully implement all subsisting court rulings.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to justice, peace, and the protection of traditional institutions, urging all stakeholders to uphold the rule of law.
