The race for the 2027 Kwara State governorship election gathered momentum on Tuesday as Femi Sanni, popularly known as Araba, formally obtained his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Sanni picked the forms at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Abuja Continental Hotel in Abuja, officially signaling his entry into the governorship contest.
Speaking shortly after obtaining the forms, the APC aspirant commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the promotion of internal democracy within the ruling party.
“I want to sincerely thank President Bola Tinubu for creating an enabling environment where aspirants can freely pursue their ambitions. What we are witnessing reflects true democratic values within our great party,” he said.
Sanni also praised AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for ensuring what he called a level playing field for all aspirants in the state.
“I must appreciate Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for providing equal opportunities for all contenders regardless of political background. It speaks volumes about his leadership and commitment to fairness within the party,” he added.
The governorship hopeful further expressed appreciation to the APC leadership at both state and national levels for guaranteeing what he described as a transparent and inclusive process ahead of the party primaries.
According to him, his decision to join the race followed extensive consultations across Kwara North, Kwara Central, and Kwara South, where he said residents demanded purposeful leadership, economic growth, and inclusive governance.
“Our consultations across the three senatorial districts have been very encouraging. The people want leadership that will consolidate existing gains while expanding economic opportunities and inclusive governance,” Sanni stated.
Political observers have increasingly identified Sanni as one of the leading contenders in the APC governorship race, citing his growing grassroots support and widespread consultations across the state.
With the formal acquisition of his nomination forms, political activities ahead of the APC governorship primaries are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
