-Says 48 Federal Appointments Facilitated by Hashim Over Two Decades Ago Remain Unmatched
A chieftain of the Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement (GHSM) in Kwara State, Olamilekan Esinrogunjo, has declared that Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim remains Kwara’s original leader, citing what he described as an unmatched record of public service, empowerment and federal appointments.
Esinrogunjo made the remarks in a post published on his official Facebook page while reacting to the renewed debate over political leadership in Kwara State following recent political developments within the ruling APC.
According to him, while public discourse has largely revolved around former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, such comparisons overlook a defining chapter in Kwara’s political history.
“As far back as 1999, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim facilitated no fewer than 48 federal appointments for qualified Kwarans. More than two decades later, that record remains unmatched.”
He listed some of the beneficiaries to include Alhaji Yekini Alabi (Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria), Nurudeen Mohammed (Federal Psychiatric Hospital), Alhaji Shaba Lafiaji (Federal College of Education), Chief Henry Olaosebikan (National Theatre), Alhaji Baba Gunun (Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation), Barrister Kunle Suleiman (National Inland Waterways Authority), Chief S. S. Ajibola (Niger River Basin Development Authority), Engineer Aransiola (Governing Council, Federal University, Makurdi) and Chief Sunday Olosunde (Integrated Data Services Limited, an NNPC subsidiary), among others.
Esinrogunjo also stated that Hashim facilitated more than 4,000 poverty alleviation jobs for Kwarans, providing economic opportunities for thousands of families without seeking political applause.
According to him, the distinguishing feature of Hashim’s leadership is that it was driven by service rather than self-promotion.
“Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim never built a personality cult around his achievements. He empowered people, opened doors for Kwarans and allowed his record to speak for itself.”
He maintained that leadership should be assessed by measurable impact rather than political rhetoric.
“Leadership is measured by lives transformed, opportunities created and institutions strengthened, not by slogans or propaganda. By those standards, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim occupies a unique place in Kwara’s political history.”
Esinrogunjo urged Kwarans, particularly the younger generation, to study the state’s political history objectively and judge leaders by their record of service, integrity and commitment to the people.
