Hundreds dump APC for PDP in Kwara, join PFA Volunteers

Hundreds of members of the Irewunmi Youth Forum have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ajikobi Central Ward, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The defectors, who had reportedly supported the APC for about seven years, were formally received into the PDP by the Professor Fatai Aremu (PFA) Volunteers during a political gathering held in the Itamerin area of the ward.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Irewunmi Youth Forum, Mallam Abdulrasaq Atelubo, said the decision to leave the APC followed years of loyalty without meaningful recognition or benefits for members and the community.

He expressed confidence that the PDP would provide a more inclusive platform for participation, development and effective leadership.

The PFA Volunteers described the mass defection as a reflection of growing public confidence in the PDP and pledged to continue strengthening the party’s grassroots structures ahead of future elections.

The event was attended by several PDP leaders and stakeholders, including the Chairman of PDP Ajikobi Ward, Yusuf Garba; the ward Vice Chairman, Maruf Olanrewaju Murphy; party chieftain, Olamilekan Lawal (Automatic); Director-General of the Dadinkowa Movement, Hon. Amir Alege; PDP Kwara Central Senatorial Youth Leader, Arodola; Kwara State Coordinator of PFA Volunteers, Comrade Oluwadare Lukman CJ; Itamerin Zonal Chairman, Kayode Arowolo; Alhaji Morning Star; and Alhaji Alanu Abdullateef.

Addressing the new members, Lawal urged them to remain committed to the ideals of the PDP, stressing that unity, dedication and hard work would strengthen the party ahead of future elections.

The leadership of the PFA Volunteers also commended party leaders, youth groups and supporters for contributing to the success of the event, assuring the new members of equal opportunities within the party.

The group said the large turnout and mass defection underscored the growing support for the PDP and the leadership of Professor Fatai Aremu in Ajikobi Central Ward.
