Sobi 101.9 FM has appointed seasoned broadcaster Oluwafemi Oparinde, popularly known as Opasobi, as its new General Manager as the station marked its ninth anniversary.
The appointment was announced by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees during a live edition of Ọ̀rọ̀ Ìlú, the station’s flagship multilingual socio-political programme.
Until his appointment, Oparinde served as the Head of Programmes and was widely recognised for anchoring some of the station’s popular indigenous programmes, including Fẹlifẹli, Ọmọ Ologi, Jẹ́ Ká Jọ Ṣe, and Lálálé Friday.
Speaking during the announcement, the Board Chairman commended the commitment of the station’s workforce and reflected on Sobi FM’s contributions to broadcasting over the past nine years, noting that the station had become a trusted platform for timely, people-centred, and community-focused journalism.
The appointment is widely seen as a strategic move to strengthen the station’s leadership through internal succession and sustain its vision of promoting social rebirth among young people.
As General Manager, Oparinde is expected to lead the station’s next phase of growth, with a focus on digital innovation, operational development, and expanding its reach across its multilingual broadcast platforms, including English, Yoruba, Hausa, Nupe, Fulfulde, and Batonu.
