IGP Disu meets former police chiefs, seeks support to strengthen reforms

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s successor, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Thursday received a delegation of former Inspectors-General of Police as part of efforts to strengthen policing and address the country’s security challenges.

The delegation comprised former Inspectors-General Aliyu Attah, Sunday Ehindero, Mike Okiro, Ogbonna Onovo, Abubakar Ringim, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, Sulaiman Abba, Usman Alkali Baba, and Kayode Egbetokun.

According to the Force Headquarters, the meeting focused on leveraging the wealth of experience, institutional memory, and strategic insights of the former police chiefs to tackle contemporary security threats and accelerate ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking during the meeting, Disu expressed appreciation to his predecessors for honouring the invitation, describing their experience and contributions as invaluable to the continued transformation of the Force.

He noted that drawing from the institutional knowledge of former police leaders would strengthen operational effectiveness, enhance policy implementation, and support efforts to improve public confidence in policing.

The meeting forms part of the new police leadership’s drive to consolidate reforms and adopt collaborative strategies aimed at improving security and service delivery across the country.
