The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Kwara Axis, has been thrown into uncertainty following the emergence of two factional chairmen, with Comrade Soliu Ismail Aloba and Comrade Yusuf Abdulquadir Eleburuike separately claiming victory in parallel electoral processes.
Aloba, an indigene of Oke-Oyi in Ilorin East Local Government Area and a student of Kwara State University, had earlier announced his emergence as chairman, describing his victory as a mandate to rebuild trust, restore relevance, and reposition NANS Kwara as a platform for student advocacy, welfare, and leadership development.
However, in a separate development, Eleburuike was also declared winner of the NANS Kwara chairmanship election after securing what supporters described as a commanding lead over other contestants. His emergence was greeted with jubilation among supporters, who said the outcome reflected widespread acceptance of his agenda for student welfare, academic advancement, and stronger collaboration among tertiary institutions in the state.
Both camps have continued to project legitimacy, with supporters insisting that their preferred candidates emerged through credible and transparent processes witnessed by delegates, observers, and stakeholders within the student community.
Speaking after his emergence, Aloba pledged to run an inclusive administration, promising equal representation for students across public and private institutions in the state.
“Our goal is to build a NANS that is visible, responsive, and impactful. Every institution matters, and every student deserves to feel represented,” he said.
Similarly, Eleburuike assured students of purposeful leadership, stating that his administration would prioritise student welfare, strengthen institutional representation, and promote unity among campuses across the state.
The development has generated mixed reactions among students and stakeholders, with many expressing concern over the emergence of parallel leadership structures and the implications for the unity of the association.
Observers within the student movement have called on the national leadership of NANS and relevant stakeholders to intervene and clarify the authentic leadership to prevent further division within the body.
As preparations for inauguration activities commence, students have urged both camps to prioritise dialogue and the collective interest of the student community, stressing that a united NANS remains critical to effective advocacy and representation in Kwara State.
