Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, is dead.
Ambali, who was also the Chairman of the Governing Council of Kwara State University, Malete, reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday at the age of 68.
The late professor was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost academics and university administrators, having made significant contributions to higher education, research, and institutional development during his distinguished career.
During his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Ambali was credited with strengthening the institution’s reputation for academic excellence, stability, and innovation, earning respect from colleagues, students, and stakeholders within the education sector.
Until his death, he served as Chairman of the Governing Council of Kwara State University, where he provided leadership and strategic direction aimed at advancing the growth and development of the institution.
Family sources confirmed that the Janazah prayer for the deceased would hold at 4 p.m. on Saturday at his residence along Air Force Road, Oloje Estate, Ilorin.
His death has elicited reactions from members of the academic community, political leaders, and associates, who described him as a dedicated scholar, administrator, and mentor whose contributions to education will be remembered for years to come.
