Ajia accepts NDC governorship ticket, unveils vision for Kwara

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kwara State, Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia, has pledged to pursue a people-centred development agenda focused on job creation, quality education, healthcare, and institutional reforms if elected.

Ajia made the pledge in a statement issued on Thursday following the conclusion of the party’s governorship nomination process, where he emerged as the party’s candidate, subject to the completion of internal ratification procedures.

Expressing appreciation to the leadership, stakeholders, and members of the party for their support, Ajia described his emergence as a responsibility rather than a personal victory.

According to him, the aspiration is driven by the need to address unemployment, economic hardship, weak public institutions, and limited opportunities confronting many residents of the state.

He said his vision for Kwara is anchored on creating opportunities for young people, strengthening institutions, expanding access to quality education and healthcare, and improving government accountability and service delivery.

“We seek to build a Kwara where children can access quality education regardless of background, young people can find meaningful work, businesses can thrive, and communities are connected through infrastructure and public investment,” he said.

Ajia added that his campaign would focus on ideas, competence, inclusion, and measurable results rather than divisive politics, stressing the need to place the people at the centre of governance.

The governorship candidate also called on students, workers, artisans, professionals, market men and women, traditional institutions, community leaders, and other stakeholders to join what he described as a movement for the future of Kwara State.

He expressed optimism that collective commitment and public participation would help deliver a safer, more productive, and prosperous Kwara.
