The Tajudeen Olesin Foundation has commenced the eighth edition of its Annual Free Summer Lesson Programme, reaffirming its commitment to improving access to quality education for students in Kwara State.
The programme, which began on Tuesday at Government Day Secondary School, Amule, Ilorin, is expected to provide weeks of intensive academic coaching, mentorship and character development for hundreds of students, with volunteer teachers facilitating the sessions.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the founder of the Foundation, Ambassador Ibrahim Tajudeen Shola Olesin, said the initiative was established to complement government efforts in strengthening public education and has, over the years, impacted thousands of students across the state.
He recalled that the programme was suspended for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic but noted that the Foundation remained committed to promoting educational development and youth empowerment.
According to Olesin, education remains the most effective tool for transforming lives and building a prosperous society, stressing that every child deserves access to quality learning opportunities regardless of socioeconomic background.
“This programme is our own contribution to improving educational outcomes. We believe that when young people are equipped with knowledge, discipline and the right values, they become agents of positive change in society,” he said.
He urged participating students to take full advantage of the opportunity by remaining focused, asking questions and striving for academic excellence.
“Your background should never determine your future. Stay committed, work hard and make the best use of this opportunity,” he advised.
Olesin also appreciated the volunteer teachers, parents, community leaders and partners whose continued support has sustained the annual initiative over the years.
He noted that the dedication and sacrifices of the volunteers have been instrumental to the success of the programme and its continued impact on young learners.
The Foundation described the summer lesson as one of its flagship educational interventions, designed to provide free academic support during the long vacation while promoting discipline, leadership and personal development.
It expressed optimism that this year’s edition would further advance its mission of nurturing future leaders and contributing to the development of education in Kwara State.
