Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has signed the ₦1.669 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, reinforcing the state’s commitment to fiscal discipline and sustainable development.

The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, and was attended by the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, principal officers and members of the Assembly, as well as members of the State Executive Council.

Governor Abiodun had presented the budget, christened the “Budget of Sustainable Legacy,” to the House of Assembly on December 3, 2025, for consideration and approval.

Speaking after assenting to the bill, the governor assured residents that implementation of the 2026 budget would commence immediately, aimed at improving both revenue generation and expenditure efficiency across the state.

He described the new budget as a major milestone, noting that it represents a 58 per cent increase over the 2025 budget of ₦1.054 trillion.

“This time last year, we signed into law an appropriation of about ₦1.054 trillion. Today, we are signing into law an appropriation of ₦1.669 trillion, which represents a 58 per cent increase over the 2025 budget,” Abiodun said.

According to him, the early passage and signing of the budget before the end of the year reflect his administration’s long-standing tradition of ensuring fiscal continuity, predictability and effective governance.

The governor expressed appreciation to the Ogun State House of Assembly for its cooperation and diligence, noting that lawmakers worked expeditiously despite the festive period to ensure timely passage of the bill.

“Once we presented the bill, the House immediately went to work. They engaged all Ministries, Departments and Agencies, thoroughly interrogated the proposals, and did so within a short time, despite the encroachment of the holiday season,” he added.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, said the bill was subjected to rigorous scrutiny to ensure it aligns with the developmental priorities and aspirations of the people of Ogun State.

“A lot went into the process of passing this bill. Members worked tirelessly to ensure it was passed before the end of the year. We thank God that the governor has now signed it into law before the year ran out,” Elemide said.

The 2026 budget is expected to drive sustainable growth, enhance service delivery, and consolidate the gains recorded by the Abiodun administration across key sectors of the state’s economy.
