Gunmen Abduct School Proprietor, Four Farmers in Kwara Community

Suspected terrorists on Wednesday night abducted a school proprietor and four farmers in Odo-Ore, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, throwing the quiet community into tension.

The attackers, said to be about 10 in number, reportedly stormed the town around 11pm, firing sporadically before carrying out the abduction.

Residents said the community, which lacks a police station or any visible security presence, was left vulnerable during the attack, described as the first of its kind in the area.

Findings revealed that the gunmen went straight to the residence of Alhaji Yunusa Sanni, a politician and proprietor of a private school, where they forced their way in and abducted him at gunpoint.

The victim, who also runs a private school in Lagos, was said to have arrived in Odo-Ore earlier on Wednesday before the incident occurred later in the night.

Sources added that four other victims, identified as Hausa farmers, were abducted by the gunmen while they were leaving the community.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that the attack may have been aided by informants within the community, noting that the assailants headed directly to the victim’s residence.

A senior police officer at the Owu-Isin Divisional Headquarters confirmed the incident.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Police Command had yet to officially react, as calls to its spokesperson, Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi, were not answered.
