Farmer Killed in Daylight Attack in Gbugbu, Resident Debunks Kidnap Rumours

Tension gripped Gbugbu community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday following a daytime attack by suspected bandits that left one farmer dead.

A resident who spoke with NUPEKOTV said the incident occurred on a farm near Gbugbu Secondary School, close to a military checkpoint, where two farmers were working before gunmen struck.

According to the source, one of the victims was first shot in the hand. The attackers reportedly advanced and, upon noticing he was still alive, fired another shot that killed him. His colleague managed to escape.

The sound of gunfire triggered panic across the community, with residents fleeing to safety.

In a related development, passengers in a vehicle arriving from Ilorin reportedly abandoned the vehicle and ran into nearby bushes after hearing the gunshots.

However, the source dismissed reports of a mass abduction, clarifying that no passengers were kidnapped during the incident.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement.

Residents have raised concerns over the proximity of the attack to a military checkpoint, calling for strengthened security presence to protect lives and property in the area.
