A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, Engr. Femi Sanni, popularly known as Araba, has commended Nigerian workers for their resilience and contributions to national development, while calling for stronger support and improved welfare for labour.
In a statement issued on Friday to commemorate the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration, Sanni described workers as the backbone of the economy and critical drivers of growth across key sectors including public service, education, healthcare, agriculture, and small-scale businesses.
He noted that the sacrifices of workers continue to sustain families, communities, and the nation’s collective aspirations despite prevailing economic challenges.
According to him, rising living costs, changing workplace realities, and concerns over job security have placed enormous pressure on many households, stressing the need for policies that prioritise the welfare, dignity, and productivity of workers.
Sanni also commended organised labour unions, particularly the and the , for their continued advocacy for workers’ rights and social justice.
He said the role of labour unions in promoting fairness, dialogue, and equity remains vital to national progress.
The APC chieftain further urged government, the private sector, and civil society organisations to work together in creating opportunities that would support workers and promote economic growth.
He emphasised the need for skills development, innovation, support for small businesses, and fair workplace conditions as part of efforts to build a more inclusive economy.
Sanni added that the dignity of labour must remain a core national value, insisting that every worker deserves respect, fair treatment, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to society.
He encouraged workers in Kwara State to remain committed to excellence, integrity, and service in their various fields.
