Kano Gov Welcomes Shekarau Back to APC, Predicts Stronger Party Ahead

Kano State Governor, , has hailed the return of former governor and senator, , to the (APC), describing it as a major boost to the party’s strength in the state.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, the governor said Shekarau’s return would further consolidate the party’s structure and influence ahead of future elections.

Yusuf disclosed that a date would soon be announced, in consultation with the party’s national secretariat, for the formal reception of the former governor into the APC.

He noted that the party in Kano has continued to witness growing support across different parts of the state, positioning it as a dominant political force.

“The party in Kano continues to witness growing support and consolidation, positioning itself as the most dominant political force in the state,” the statement read.

The governor added that the APC is well-prepared to win all elective positions in upcoming elections, citing unity and strategic alignment among members as key factors.

He also assured party faithful of the leadership’s commitment to strengthening internal cohesion and expanding grassroots support.

Earlier, Shekarau had announced his resignation from the (PDP) in a letter dated April 19, 2026, addressed to the party chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area.

The former governor said his decision followed extensive consultations within his political group and was part of a broader plan to continue his political career on another platform.

His return to the APC is expected to significantly influence political alignments in Kano State ahead of the next election cycle.
