The race for the House of Representatives seat representing Ilorin East/South Federal Constituency gathered momentum on Sunday as the Kwara State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, formally declared his intention to contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The declaration ceremony, held in Ilorin, attracted party stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders, artisans, transport union members, and supporters from across the constituency. The event also witnessed strong mobilisation from various support groups, reflecting growing political momentum within the APC.
Speaking at the event, Olododo described his ambition as a collective mission aimed at advancing effective representation and people-oriented governance. He said his experience in both the private and public sectors, particularly in infrastructure development and social welfare, has equipped him with the capacity to deliver impactful representation at the National Assembly.
“I understand how government systems work and where interventions are needed. My goal is to translate representation into tangible outcomes for communities,” he said.
Olododo also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for creating opportunities for young leaders to contribute meaningfully to governance and development in the state.
Outlining his agenda, the APC aspirant pledged to establish a functional constituency office within 90 days of assuming office to strengthen engagement with constituents and improve service delivery. He also promised to institutionalise regular consultations and feedback mechanisms to ensure inclusive representation.
On economic development, Olododo said he would facilitate access to federal intervention programmes for entrepreneurs, farmers, and small business owners within the constituency. He specifically referenced intervention schemes by institutions such as the Bank of Industry, NIRSAL, and the Central Bank of Nigeria, noting that many grassroots beneficiaries remain disconnected from available opportunities.
Highlighting the youthful population of the constituency, he stressed the need for policies that support digital innovation, technical skills development, and remote work opportunities for young people.
“What we have is a generation already innovating and solving problems. My role is to create the legislative support that connects them to bigger platforms,” he added.
Stakeholders at the event commended Olododo’s performance as Commissioner for Works and Transport, describing him as a major contributor to ongoing infrastructure projects across the state. They also expressed confidence in his ability to provide quality representation for Ilorin East/South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
