The has announced an immediate traffic diversion following the collapse of the old Moro Bridge after a heavy-duty truck reportedly caved in the structure overnight.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Olajide Moyo Abolarin, the Kwara State Government said it is collaborating with federal authorities to manage traffic flow and minimise disruption along the affected corridor.
According to the statement, engineers from the ministry have been deployed to commence palliative work on an alternative route to ease vehicular movement for commuters and motorists using the road.
The government added that it had received assurances from federal authorities that work is progressing on the new Moro Bridge currently under construction close to the collapsed structure.
“State traffic managers are to work with transport unions and commuters to maintain orderly passage on the alternative route while palliative work begins immediately on the old iron-made bridge,” the statement said.
The ministry urged motorists and other road users to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officials as efforts continue to address the situation and restore smooth movement in the area.
Residents and commuters were also advised to drive cautiously while using the alternative route to avoid accidents and congestion during the emergency intervention.
