The Kwara State High Court, sitting in Ilorin, has convicted and sentenced the General Overseer of Mission House of Divine Land of Joy and Prayer Ministry, Prophet Ajiboye Abayomi Olayinka, to life imprisonment for having unlawful sexual intercourse with three minors on his church premises.
According to the judgment handed down by the trial judge, Justice Hammed Gegele, the convict used his position as a clergyman to turn his victims into sex machines, abusing them physically and mentally.
The court further revealed that the convict, on several occasions, impregnated his victims, forced them to abort the pregnancies, and threatened that they must not let anyone know about the illicit acts.
The court narrated how one of the victims recounted her ordeal with the prophet—how he took her to the generator house to forcefully have sex with her using anointing oil as lubricant, and how he woke her up after vigils for rounds of sex.
Justice Gegele described the convict as a pedophile and philanderer whose conduct should be deprecated by all and sundry in society.
For the offence of illegal abortion of several pregnancies of his victims, the court slammed 14 years’ imprisonment on Prophet Olayinka.
The convict bagged three life imprisonment penalties for three different offences bordering on illegal sexual intercourse with 13-year-old minors.
It will be recalled that the defendant had faced eight count charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, illegal abortion, and unlawful possession of firearms, contrary to Sections 97, 235, and 283 of the Penal Code, Section 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, 2004, and Section 31(2) of the Kwara State Child Rights Law, 2006.
During the hearing, the prosecution called twelve (12) witnesses and tendered exhibits.
In the evidence of the victims against the convict, he administered anointing oil on their private parts before having forceful sexual intercourse with them in the mission house and gave them a Bible to swear to secrecy, warning that they would die if they divulged what transpired.
On 11th February 2026, the prosecution’s team led by Issa Zakari, Chief State Counsel, cross-examined the convict and his witnesses in his defence before the court.
Upon the close of defence, written addresses were filed and adopted, and the case was adjourned for judgment.
Justice Gegele further directed that the pump-action gun recovered from the defendant be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
