APC Primary: Stakeholders reject candidate imposition, back Dankaka for Senate

Ahead of Monday’s senatorial primary election of the , stakeholders and party faithful from the seven local government areas of Kwara South have rejected alleged plans to impose a candidate on the district.

The stakeholders, who gathered for a solidarity rally at Iyeru Primary School in Offa on Sunday, openly opposed the return bid of the incumbent senator, , while endorsing former Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, , for the senatorial ticket.

The rally witnessed protesters displaying placards with inscriptions such as “Lola Ashiru Must Go,” “We Don’t Want Imposition Candidates,” and “Enough is Enough: Say No to Lola Ashiru.”

Speaking at the event, an APC stakeholder, Alhaja Wosila Alado, urged the party leadership to allow a transparent and democratic process during the primary election.

“Imposing a candidate will do more harm than good to the party’s fortunes. We are urging the party leadership to let the true will of the people prevail in tomorrow’s contest,” she said.

The stakeholders argued that Kwara South requires a fresh approach to representation at the Senate, describing Dankaka as an experienced administrator with strong contributions to the progressive movement in the state.

Also speaking, a youth leader, Comrade Abdul, warned that imposing an unpopular candidate could weaken the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We urge our leaders to ensure a peaceful contest and critically evaluate the track records of all aspirants. With a free and fair primary, we have no doubt that Hajia Dankaka’s widespread goodwill will give her victory,” he said.

The coalition called on President , Governor , and the APC national leadership to ensure a level playing field during the primary election.
