PDP stakeholders warn against disqualification of Offa aspirant

Concerned stakeholders of the in Ojomu/Balogun Constituency, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, have warned the party leadership against the planned disqualification of a State House of Assembly aspirant, Hon. Wasiu Ajibola.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the group said reports suggesting that Ajibola may be disqualified over the late submission of his tax clearance certificate could trigger disaffection among party members and weaken the PDP’s chances in the constituency.

The stakeholders described the issue as an administrative oversight that had already been rectified, insisting that it should not be treated as grounds for disqualification.

According to the statement, Ajibola enjoys wide grassroots support across Ojomu and Balogun wards due to his long-standing engagement with party members, youth groups, market women, and community leaders.

“Removing Hon. Wasiu Ajibola now will be interpreted by party faithful as imposition and betrayal. The consequence is predictable: mass apathy, anti-party sentiment, and a likely loss of both the constituency seat and Offa LGA’s broader support to the opposition,” the statement read.

The stakeholders called on the PDP Screening Committee and the State Working Committee to review the matter fairly, consider the late submission as a waivable issue, and prioritise reconciliation over exclusion.

They further urged the party leadership to allow candidates with broad grassroots acceptance to emerge, warning that any action perceived as unfair could create internal divisions ahead of the elections.

“The PDP cannot afford to alienate its base months before a critical election. The time to correct this course is now,” the group added.
