ARABA condemns Yashikira palace attack, renews call for state police

A governorship aspirant of the in Kwara State, Engr. Femi Sanni, popularly known as ARABA, has condemned the attack on the palace of the Emir of Yashikira in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued on Monday, ARABA described the incident, which reportedly led to abductions and destruction of property, as barbaric and unacceptable. He sympathised with the Emir of Yashikira, affected families and residents of the community over the attack.

The APC chieftain said the development further highlighted the growing insecurity confronting rural communities across the country, stressing the need for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s security architecture.

According to him, the current centralised policing system has become overstretched and incapable of responding effectively to local security threats, renewing his call for the establishment of state police and stronger subnational security structures.

“For years, I have consistently advocated for the establishment of state police and the strengthening of subnational security frameworks that will allow states and local communities play more active and rapid-response roles in protecting lives and property,” he said.

He added that communities understand their terrains and security challenges better, noting that constitutionally backed state policing would improve intelligence gathering and emergency response.

ARABA also called on security agencies to intensify efforts toward rescuing abducted victims and ensuring that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.

The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday when armed men invaded the Emir’s palace and parts of Yashikira community, heightening concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara North.
